DHEA and its sulfate form, DHEAs, are the most abundant steroid hormones in the human body, present in blood, saliva, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). DHEA acts as a "buffer" reservoir, contributing to the intracellular synthesis of various estrogens and androgens throughout the body. DHEA production peaks during the second decade of life, and from the early 30s onward, levels typically decline by 10% per decade. Factors such as aging, inflammation, blood sugar imbalances, and long-term stress may contribute to the decline in DHEA production. Maintaining healthy DHEA levels is essential for overall hormonal balance and well-being.
